Contemporary Dance Practice, Improvisation & Laban Movement Analysis

A space to move, reconnect, and return to the body

Movement has always been at the heart of how I understand the world. My approach to teaching is rooted in the training I received at Trinity Laban (formerly the Laban Centre), where the work of Rudolf Laban, somatic enquiry, and the artistry of movement were held with care and integrity. That foundation, and the teachers who shaped me, continue to influence how I facilitate dance today.

For over 20 years, I’ve taught contemporary dance in professional, educational, and community contexts. My practice is grounded in somatic awareness, improvisation, and Laban Movement Analysis, alongside contemporary release technique. I continue to teach at DanceEast’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) as a longstanding member of the contemporary dance faculty and health programme tutor.

I’ve held teaching roles with institutions including Trinity Laban, E15 Acting School, University Campus Suffolk, the Royal Opera House, The Dance Network Association, and DanceEast. Across all of these spaces, my work has focused on supporting technical development, artistic enquiry, and connection to self through movement.

This work is not about perfecting form. It’s about coming back to yourself. Whether in a studio or a community hall, whether you’re exploring your practice, returning after a pause, or simply seeking space to move without judgment, you are welcome here.

My teaching is shaped by years of community practice. I’ve developed early years movement sessions for parents and toddlers, supported families through online creative work during the pandemic, and led projects for older adults living with Alzheimer’s and early dementia. I’ve facilitated dance for Women’s International groups and created spaces for movement in health, education, and community care. Renowned partnerships include DanceEast’s partnership with English National Ballet’s Dance for Parkinson’s Programme and the Intergenerational Dance and Performance Programme funded by The King’s Trust in collaboration with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice, Ipswich.

At the heart of all my work is a belief in the intelligence of the body, and the power of movement to connect us back to ourselves, and each other.
